Mexicans believe President Claudia Sheinbaum’s security plan is effective

On October 8, Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, unveiled President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration’s security strategy, which highlights four key pillars aimed at achieving lasting peace in the country.

According to a poll conducted by QM Opinion Studies, in partnership with Heraldo Media Group, most citizens believe that the President’s security plan is “very good” or “good” and will yield positive societal results.

When asked, “Are you aware of the security plan for this term proposed by President Claudia Sheinbaum and presented by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch?” 32% of respondents said they were, while 68% were not.

Of the 32% who were aware, 26% rated the President’s security plan as “very good” and 49% as “good,” making a total of 75%. Additionally, 9% considered it “average,” 6% said it was “bad,” 6% rated it “very bad,” and 4% responded with “don’t know/no answer.”

Another question was, “Do you think the country’s security will improve with this term’s security plan?” 58% answered “yes,” 24% said “no,” and 18% responded “don’t know.”

The Plan’s key pillars:

• Addressing root causes, focusing on supporting the most vulnerable families.
• Strengthening the National Guard by enhancing its operational capacities.
• Boosting intelligence and investigation efforts to prevent crimes.
• Coordinating between the security cabinet and state authorities.

In response to the survey results, President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her gratitude for the public’s support during a morning press conference. She assured that “results will come gradually with this strategy, as long as we have a judiciary that doesn’t grant protection to criminals. The judiciary also bears responsibility for the country’s pacification,” she emphasized.
