Regina García Cuéllar becomes the first woman to hold the position of General Director of the Mexican Banking Association (ABM), since its creation on November 12, 1928. This decision was made by the organization’s Executive and Associate Committees, following the departure of Juan Carlos Jiménez Rojas, who held the position for 19 years and stepped down this past May upon his retirement. The President of the Mexican Banking Association, Julio Carranza Bolívar, welcomed Regina García Cuéllar and emphasized that with her appointment, she becomes the first woman to hold the position of General Director of the Association. Among the new director’s responsibilities are managing the Association’s financial and material resources, coordinating and supervising the work of the Specialized Commissions and Committees, liaising with State Banking Centers, and handling legal matters. Regina García Cuéllar has over 25 years of experience in the banking, telecommunications, health, and energy sectors. Additionally, she has expertise in business transformation, strategic planning, economic analysis, customer experience, and data-driven decision-making. She holds a degree in Economics from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) and a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University.She has held key roles in high-profile organizations such as IZZI Telecom, Citibanamex, Pemex, IMSS, and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit. She is Co-Chair of 50/50 Women on Boards Mexico and has been an advisor to major business groups. “We are confident that under her leadership, the ABM will continue to successfully face the challenges of the industry and stand out as one of the most important organizations in the country.
