The surfer acknowledged that his performance was not as expected, but also recognized that everyone was cheering him on in his quest for a medal. Before leaving Tahiti, he wanted to thank everyone who took some time to watch him compete in the Olympics. "It has been an honor to have the support of all of Mexico."

Cleland arrived at the Olympics as an unknown, but after his performances in Tahiti, the Colima native knows he has captured the attention of the entire Mexican public.
