At the morning press conference, he noted that the train was designed to boost the development of the country's southeast by promoting efficient connectivity with modern railway infrastructure, driving tourism, and attracting investments that are generating employment and economic growth in the region.
The 1,554-kilometer train route is divided into seven segments that pass through Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. It crosses 36 municipalities in the country, with 34 stations, ten visitor centers, three national parks, six hotels, and four airports. Operations began on December 16 last year with a route from Campeche to Cancún and Cancún to Campeche.
"On January 1, we started the route from Cancún to Palenque, and on March 15, we opened the segment from Cancún to Playa del Carmen. In these 205 days of operations until July 11, as I said, we have moved 246,926 passengers, which, in comparison, is like filling the Azteca Stadium 2.6 times," he emphasized.
