Over 2 Million Foreign-Origin Used Cars Regularized in México

Since 2022, the Mexican government has successfully regularized over two million foreign-origin used vehicles in 17 states across the country through a specially implemented program. This significant achievement was announced by Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, Mexico's Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, in a press conference at the National Palace.

“These vehicles, models from 2018 and earlier, now have the necessary documents to operate in Mexico legally,” she stated, adding that the program has generated over 5.895 billion pesos.
Rodríguez highlighted that three states account for 51% of the regularized vehicles: Chihuahua (417,323 units), Tamaulipas (412,774 units), and Baja California (372,940 units). In contrast, the states with the fewest regularizations are Hidalgo, Puebla, and Tlaxcala.

The funds collected, a substantial 5.895 billion pesos, have been put to good use. They have enabled the repaving of 4,373,546 square meters of roads in participating states, including Chihuahua, Zacatecas, Tamaulipas, Baja California, Coahuila, Durango, and Sonora. This has significantly improved the infrastructure in these areas, although Rodríguez noted that five states still require repaving efforts.
